Making Progress...

Hi Everyone!  Happy Weekend!

Just stopping by to share a sneak peek of a new embroidery design I've been working on. :)

Remember these?  They've been turned into a fabulous border.  I really like how the design is coming together.  The top is done, now bring on the quilting!  Trying to decide between machine or hand quilting...  What's your favorite?

Be back soon with (hopefully) a finished project to share!

Mixed Media Monday

Hello out there!  Hope everyone's week is off to a great start.  Thought I'd share a mixed media project that I created over the weekend.  It was fun incorporating a bit of fabric and stitching into this one...  The pink bit is actually a baby wipe that was left out to dry after I used it to blend paint onto a background in my art journal. :)

Be back later this week to share a sewing project update...

Mixed Media Monday

Happy Monday Everyone!  Hope everybody had a great weekend.  I got some studio time in over the weekend, so life is good around here. :)

This week's Mixed Media Monday post is a page spread from my art journal.  I mediums this time were paint, ink and some scrapbook paper.  Warm colors are so not my norm, but they've been showing up more and more in my work lately...

A few close-ups, just for fun... :)

I also have a few fun embroidery projects in the works.  Be back soon with some sneak peeks...

Mixed Media Monday

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!  It's amazing how great it can be to have an extra day off - gotta love long weekends! :)

So in the spirit of back-to-school time and falling back into routines (although I'm sooo not ready for summer to be over yet...), I've decided to start something new here on the blog.  Every Monday I'll be posting images of a mixed media project for "Mixed Media Monday".

This week's project was created on a small 5"x 7" canvas using paint, scrapbook paper, stamps, rub-ons and a few embellishments.

Hope you'll enjoy this new weekly show-n-tell.  I know I'll sure enjoy preparing for it! :)

Finding the Perfect Fabric

Recently I had a fabric dilemma...  I needed the perfect background fabric to finish a new design currently in the works.  I kept searching, knowing I would "know it when I saw it", but I could not quite find the right print. The color was either too dark or too light, or the print was too large/small, too busy/plain, etc, etc...

Than I came across this line by this talented gal, and my search was over! :)  Seriously, how cute is this fabric?!?

Ok, back to cutting and stitching...  Be back soon with a progress update!

Art Journaling Fun

I tend to alternate between quilting and mixed media.  Both satisfy my need for a creative outlet, but I approach the two art forms very differently.  I find quilting to be very precise - I'm an even-stitches, point-matcher-upper kinda gal (at least I aim to be)... :)  While my mixed media style on the other hand, is very loose and free-flowing.  The balance I find between the two just seems to work for me.

I've really been enjoying the online class 21 Secrets.  21 mixed media artists share their favorite art journaling techniques in video format, and there is an online community where participates can share their interpretation of the various techniques shown.

I was exposed to the Derwent Inktense pencils through the class, and they are quickly becoming one of my new favorite art supplies!  The colors are just so vibrant and intense - love it!!

The background on these pages was created with the Inktense pencils.

I also picked up a 5.5"x 8" Strathmore Mixed Media journal recently.  The journal I usually work in is 9"x 12". I'm really enjoying the smaller format.  The initial blank page is somehow not so intimidating and I feel more productive when I'm able to complete each page so quickly.  The paper in this journal is great too - smooth surface, but also durable enough to stand up to lots of layers.  And we all know layering is key. :)

Have you tried any fun new art supplies lately?  If so, I'd love to hear about them.  Much to the dismay of my wallet, I'm always looking to try something new. :)

Summer Paper Piecing

This amazing summer weather has inspired me to sew something bright and colorful.  I've had this pattern on my "to do" list for awhile now and decided it was about time to get started :)

Brights are not usually my normal color palette, and I haven't paper pieced in AGES, but I'm really enjoying the change of pace!

I have about half of the blocks completed, so stay tuned, more color coming up! :)
